Dr. Matthias Baumann of Germany, is assigned as International Chairperson of Himalayan Sherpa Foundation
The board of Himalayan Sherpa Foundation is immensely proud to introduce Dr. Matthias Baumann as the International Chairperson for Himalayan Sherpa Foundation. Dr. Baumann from Germany is a Trauma Surgeon by occupation and is very passionate about mountaineering and the Himalayas of Nepal. He visits Nepal very frequently and was one of the first doctors to treat the injured at the Everest base camp during the 2014 avalanche that killed 17 Sherpa’s. The next year 2015, Nepal suffered a catastrophe in the form of an earthquake that left the whole nation devastated. Upon hearing the news, Dr. Baumann immediately flew back to Nepal from Germany to treat the people and assess the situation here. He operated for 2 weeks here in Dhulikhel hospital helping the victims of the earthquake.
After heading back home to Tubingen, Dr. Baumann founded the foundation “Sherpa Nepalhilfe” which collects donation for the earthquake victims of Nepal. He is currently the President of this foundation and is working on several projects to help and rebuild Nepal.
Himalayan Sherpa Foundation welcomes Dr. Matthias Baumann to join the team and work together to rebuild Himalayan Sherpa Hospital in Phakding, en-route to Mt. Everest from Lukla. Dr. Baumann will be responsible for organizing the donors and the infrastructure development of this project together with the team of Himalayan Sherpa Foundation to establish the hospital and run it for the long run. As Dr. Baumann has a very close relationship with the Sherpa people and has a great admiration for them, the construction of the hospital adds piles of stone to strengthen the relation between the Sherpas of Khumbu and Dr. Baumann.
