Reconstruction of Pema Choling Primary School – GHAT


Pema Choling Primary School is located in Ghat 6, Chouri Kharka Village Development Committee (VDC) of Solu-Khumbu district. The village of Ghat is on the way to Namche from Lukla and lies between Lukla and Phakding. This School offers courses from Kindergarten to grade 3 and at the moment there are about 60 students and 5 teachers teaching in this school. This school is built for children of several villages like Ghat, Lho, Tate and Sengma, Thaldakoshi, as this is the only school available in this area. Upon completion of their studies here, the students either have to go to Janasewa Lower Secondary School in Gumela or Mahendra Jyoti Secondary School in Chouri Kharka.

The April 25th earthquake has destroyed some part of the building of this school and the students are forced to learn in temporary building around the school. The president of MahendraJyoti Ex-Student Forum, Mr. PasangDawa Sherpa, has prepared the architect design of the building and Himalayan Sherpa Foundation is going to build this school joining hand with another donor called James from Slovakia.

The reconstruction of the school is going to startfrom the beginning of August, 2016 and plan to complete the construction in 4 months from the starting date. The architect design and the cost details of the project is following below:

SPECIFICATION FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL BUILDING:

1. Site clearance & mobilization:
Clearing the site for re-construction including scraping, disposing, center building, establishing & mobilizing the equipment, manpower, building necessary office space management for the staffs and workers.

2. Earthwork in Excavation:
Earthwork in excavation for foundation, trenches, pits etc. in all kinds of soil including gravel boulder mix soil, boulders, rocks etc. including dressing of sides, ramming of bottom,lift up to 12 ft. stacking of excavated materials at least 10 ft. from the edge of the foundation trench all complete as per design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant.

3. Earth filling:
Filling in earth or mixed soil stacked at site in sides, foundation & floor in 8” thicklayers including loading unloading, sprinkling water, ramming, compacting etc. all completeas design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant

4. Hard core (stone soiling):
Providing and laying stone soiling in foundation and floor 6” to 8” thick with sand binding, ramming, compacting all complete in perfect line and level as per design, drawing,specification and instructions of the Consultant.

5. P.C.C. Work (1:3:6):
P.C.C. work over brick soiling Cement (equivalent of grade 53) Sand, aggregate (10mm to 38 mm stone ballast) of approved quality including mixing, finishing, laying withproper compaction in perfect line, level & dimensions, curing all complete as per design,drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant

6. P.C.C. for R.C.C. work M15 (1:2:4):
Plain cement concrete for R.C.C. works for foundation columns, beams, lintels etc. including lintel, sill, moldings, with equivalent cement of Grade 53, sand and aggregates(10mm, 20 mm, 38 mm) of approved quality including mixing, laying finishing with proper compaction in line & level curing all complete reinforcement, centering, shuttering as per design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant.

7. P.C.C. for R.C.C. work M20 (1:1.5:3):
Plain cement concrete for R.C.C. works for columns, beams etc. including lintel, sill, moldings, with equivalent cement of Grade 53, sand and aggregates (10mm, 20 mm, 38 mm)of approved quality including mixing, laying finishing with proper compaction in line &level curing all complete reinforcement, centering, shuttering as per design, drawing,specification and instructions of the Consultant.

8. Steel Reinforcement:
Tore steel reinforcement bars (Himal Iron, PanchaKanyaor equivalent) all sizes (dia.) including straightening, cleaning, cutting, bending, binding with 20 SWG annealed type wireand fixing in positions all complete in perfect line and level for columns, D.P.C. tie beam,Lintel, Sill, as per design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant

9. Form Works:
Centering, shuttering of form work with local or ply wood for all kinds of R.C.C. works for columns, beams, lintel including nails, propping scaffolding, staging, supportingand bracing in proper line and level including removal of form works all complete as perdesign, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant

10. Stone masonry wall works in foundation and superstructure:
Random rubble stone masonry in mud mortar 24” and 18” thick in foundation approved quality of stone in perfect line and level including cleaning of stone, packing of joints by mudmortar complete in all types and thickness of walls, column etc. as per design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant. Stone masonry wall work in (1:6) Cement sand mortar 18” thick above the G.L. and above D.P.C. level for superstructure.

11. Neat Cement Flooring:
Providing & laying 1.5”thick P.C.C. with 1:2:4 cement sand and ¼” to ½” aggregateslaid on floor in panels finished with 3 mm floating coat of neat cement finish 1:1 all completeas per design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant

12. Cement plaster:
Plastering the concrete, wall, ceiling (inner surface) with ¾” thick (1:4) cement plaster including making edges/ joints at the corner as per required in perfect joint, line, level, including cleaning, chipping, cutting and curing all complete as per design, drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant.

13. Cement pointing:
Cement pointing (1:3) of the stone masonry wall shall be racked out to a depth of 20 mm and the surface of the wall washed and cleaned shall be kept wet for two days before pointing. The materials of mortar cement and sand as specified shall be of standard specification. The mortar shall be pressed into raked, cleaned and wet joints and a groove of shape and size of 5 mm to 6 mm deep shall be formed running a forming tool of steel along the center line of the joints, including making edges/ joints at the corner as per required in perfect joint, line, level, including cleaning, chipping, cutting and curing all complete as per design, cleaned drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant.

14. Roofing
The sheets of C.G.I. shall be 24 gauges shall be laid with smooth side upwards with a minimum side lap of 3” to 6” Lap. The sheets shall be fixed to the purlins and battens by means of 8 mm dia. Clamp galvanized J or L hook bolts and nuts providing a bitumen washer and a galvanized iron shall be tightened. The holes for hook bolt shall be drilled not punched in the ridge of the corrugations in their exact positions the sheets are on the roof. Ridge shall be plane sheet 2’ wide usually in pairs having the required overlap. The ridges shall be fixed 8 mm dia. clamp galvanized J or L hook bolts and nuts providing a bitumen washer and a galvanized iron shall be tightened. Wood of roof shall be local wood all complete as per design, cleaned drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant.

15. Drain works:
Construction of 9” clean depth plinth protection & drain including 18” thick stone masonry walls 1:6 cement sand mortar over the bed of 3” thick P.C.C. (1:3:6) 12 mm thick cement plaster finished with a floating coat of neat cement (1:1), all complete as per design, cleaned drawing, specification and instructions of the Consultant.
